Le mwhaaragoste del genere mwhqPuerulus mwhgOrtmann 1897 vivono in acque profonde, a circa mwhw200-700 m di profondità, nel mwiaPacifico Indo-Occidentale vicino all'mwiqOceano Indiano.cite-ref-0-4-0[4]cite-ref-5[5]cite-ref-1-6-0[6] Anche se le specie di mwlgPuerulus sono ampiamente diffuse, non sono sfruttate a scopo commerciale, per quanto siano apprezzate dalle comunità locali a sud di mwlwGiava e dell'mwmaIndonesia.

In passato, il genus mwmwPuerulus includeva solamente quattro specie: mwnaP. sewelli mwnqRamadan, 1938, mwngP. velutinus mwnwHolthuis, 1963, mwoaP. carinatus mwoqBorradaile, 1910 e mwogP. angulatus mwowBate, 1888.cite-ref-0-4-1[4]cite-ref-7[7] La complessità morfologica del mwraP. angulatus, supportata da mwrqanalisi di marcatori genetici hanno permesso a Chan e colleghi di descrivere nel 2013 cinque nuove specie:cite-ref-1-6-1[6] mwsgP. quadridentis, mwswP. mesodontus , mwtaP. sericus, mwtqP. gibbosus e mwtgP. richeri. Queste nuove specie non sono presenti in acque Indonesiane, ma la mwtwP. velutinus e la mwuaP. angulatus si.cite-ref-0-4-2[4]cite-ref-1-6-2[6]
